What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is safe, gentle and effective in improving your overall health and wellbeing. In fact, it is the third largest health care system in the world. The principle of Chiropractic is to unleash the innate ability of your body to heal itself by ensuring your spine and nervous system is working optimally. The nervous system is the “master controller” of your body. A nervous system free of interference allows your brain to send and receive all the vital correct messages from your body in order to function properly.
How do I know whether I need to see a Chiropractor?
It is recommended that everyone have their spine and nervous system checked for interference. Only 10% of your nervous system perceives pain, the other 90% is responsible for making your body function. It is therefore possible to have nerve interference and feel no pain or symptoms. How you feel is a poor judge of your health. We recommend everyone have their spine and nervous system checked for interference, just like you would have your teeth checked for decay.
What is a subluxation?
A misalignment of the small bones in your spine is known as a Vertebral SubluxationSubluxations are the silent destroyers of your health because of the endangering pressure they place on the delicate spinal nerves. The weight of one five-cent piece is enough to shut down a spinal nerve by 40-60%. This interference causes a disconnection between the brain and the body’s systems and tissues.
What causes a subluxation?
Physical trauma such as motor accidents, falls or injuries can cause subluxations. In addition, repetitive traumas such as sitting for long periods, poor sleeping habits, incorrect lifting or obesity can cause subluxations. Chemical stresses caused by poor diet/eating habits; medication, caffeine or pollution is also a causative factor, as well as emotional stress.
How is a subluxation corrected?
Doctors of Chiropractic focus on the nervous system and its association with the spine. They are the only health profession trained to locate and correct vertebral subluxations. Correction occurs by a Chiropractic adjustment. There are over 100 Chiropractic techniques used today. In our centre we use a combination of techniques, utilising our hands, special adjusting tables and instruments. These procedures are gentle, adaptive to different people and circumstances and extremely effective in restoring normal nerve function and spinal alignment.
How many adjustments does it take to correct subluxations?
The most important factor to consider is how long the subluxation has been present. This determines the time and efforts needed to remove the abnormal patterns in your spine and nervous system. Obviously the longer vertebral subluxations have been present, the longer it will take to remove these “poor habits and patterns” and achieve correction. Other important factors include your age, your current lifestyle and level of health and fitness.
Does the adjustment hurt?
Under normal circumstances, Chiropractic adjustments are painless. In cases of recent trauma, mild discomfort may be experienced due to inflammation. However as our centre specialises in numerous techniques, we are able to adapt our procedures to suit any health concern.
Does an adjustment have to make a noise to be effective?
No, it is a common misconception that your joints must make a noise to be properly adjusted. The noise that is sometimes heard with an adjustment is the release of gas within the joints, much like the sound you hear if your knuckles crack. Your chiropractor is concerned with the position of your vertebrae, not merely the noise that may occur.
Can I adjust myself?
No. Your Chiropractor has their own Chiropractor for regular adjustments. Each adjustment is specific and localised. Your spine should not be “cracked” by anyone that has not had the proper training as you may end up doing long-term damage.
How is my Chiropractor educated?
Chiropractors (DC’s) must complete a five-year university degree and are primary health care providers. This means that like your general practitioner (GP), they have comprehensive knowledge of all systems of the body and diagnostic procedures. This allows the Chiropractor to thoroughly evaluate a patient, address disorders relating to the spine and nervous system, take and analyse x-rays and determine the need for referral to another health care provider if necessary. They are also required to undergo ongoing professional education on par with a medical doctor.
Is Chiropractic safe?
Yes. Chiropractors care for their patients using safe, gentle and scientifically validated techniques. We aim to educate all of our patients to inform them how and why Chiropractic is safe and appropriate for people of all ages, especially babies and children.
Once I go don’t I have to keep going forever?
No. As with any other health service the choice of how long you choose to benefit from Chiropractic care is ALWAYS up to you. We find once patients understand the relationship between their spine and overall health, many choose to have regular Chiropractic check-ups, in the same way they get their teeth checked or car serviced.
How much will my Chiropractic care cost?
Our regular retail fee for an adjustment is $50 (adults & children), $45 (concession). However, if you have subluxation, the most cost effective way to achieve the results you desire is to assess our individually designed programs. Just like a gym membership is more cost effective than paying each time you go, so is a chiropractic program. We offer packages of 12, 36 and 52 adjustments with discounts ranging up to 35% off the retail price. Ask us what the best option is for you.
Will my health insurance cover my Chiropractic care?
The healthcare insurance companies in Australia have documented the amazing results Chiropractic is achieving in reducing medical costs and time off work, and most have therefore included chiropractic in their health funds. Reimbursements do differ from company to company, so be sure to do your homework or speak with our team for the best rates that we have found.
Should my children have their spine checked for subluxations?
Absolutely. Chiropractic patients range in years from birth to old age. Regardless of age, the vertebrae can become misaligned. For example, the birth process is the first and most common cause of subluxation due to the stress placed on the neck and spine. Left uncorrected, the vertebral subluxation begins to disturb the delicate spinal cord and nerves, which controls every tissue in the child. Uncorrected subluxations in children may lead to changes in physical, mental and emotional growth and development.

The stats don’t lie, and they are oh so damning statistics! As we said last week, the more high-tech this world of ours becomes (and don’t we love it!), the more our health is suffering (don’t love that!) However, if you are smart about it, you really can enjoy the best of both worlds. But first of all, let’s identify the symptoms of the problem:
