Learning to think for ourselves
If you know me well you know that I am all about teaching people how to become independent thinkers when it comes to life. No more just accepting what our family, friends, coworkers and our good friends at the global mass media tell us.
When we are tired after a long day at work our good friends at the global mass media can pretty much tell us anything they wnt and our subconscious will absorb it as fact. I remember to this day when “Crazy John” Ilhan died whilst going for a walk the message from the media was: Walking may be causing Heart Attacks! Ahh anything to sell a paper or a TV program, right?
From an aging perspective, is it any surprise that people in their 30′s who can’t find their wallet all of a sudden start saying “I must be getting old!” Seriously dude, who taught you that crap? We need to wake up to our language and question where the beliefs comes from (the answers can sometimes be a little bit scary!) My two year old daughter can’t find her doll, her Lego man and her shoes – but she’s not “getting old” in the cultural sense – she just isn’t looking hard enough.
So … why do I say this – when it comes to health, many of us grew up in traditional families where we were taught to judge our health on how we FEEL. If we feel good, we are healthy. If we don’t feel good we are sick. The media drums it into us on a day by day basis, and so does all forms of advertising. If we have a headache, take a pill. If we have gas, take a pill. If we are going out for a few drinks, take some hangover preventative pills, etc. Rather than reading me go through WHY adopting this belief may not be serving the greater good, let me introduce you to the good people in the Town of Allopath (Allopathy if you don’t know is the traditional method of treating disease: using agents – aka medications – that produce effects different from those of the disease treated)
Have a great day,
Marcus
